About EstatePlanWise

We're a small team of financial and legal professionals who believe that good estate planning advice shouldn't be locked behind expensive attorneys or buried in legal jargon. We built EstatePlanWise to change that.

Our Mission

EstatePlanWise exists to make estate planning accessible, understandable, and actionable. We believe every family deserves a clear, thoughtful plan — regardless of the size of their estate, their legal background, or how complicated their situation might seem.

Too many people put off estate planning because they don't know where to start, assume it's only for the wealthy, or fear the process will be expensive and overwhelming. Our goal is to remove every one of those barriers. When you leave this site, you should know exactly what you need and feel confident taking the next step.

What We Do

We provide free, expert-written guides on every major estate planning topic — wills, trusts, tax planning, business succession, and probate. Each guide is written for real people, not lawyers, and walks you through the concepts, tradeoffs, and decisions you'll actually face.

Beyond guides, we offer a free interactive quiz that helps you identify exactly what kind of estate plan your situation calls for. Rather than leaving you with a generic checklist, the quiz accounts for your family structure, assets, and goals to give you a clear, personalized starting point.

We also independently review and compare online estate planning services — will-making platforms, trust services, and attorney-matching tools — so you can make an informed choice about how to get your documents done. See our How We Review page for a full explanation of our methodology.

Our Approach

Every guide we publish combines financial expertise with plain-English writing. We research thoroughly, cite primary sources — including IRS publications and state statutes — and have our content reviewed for accuracy. We are not a content mill, and we don't publish to fill a page quota. Every article earns its place.

Estate planning law changes. Exemption amounts adjust, state rules evolve, and court decisions shift the landscape. We review all of our guides at least once a year and update them immediately when significant changes occur. Every article carries a clear "Updated" date so you always know how current the information is.

Independence

We earn commissions when readers use services through our affiliate links. This is how we keep the site free and the lights on. But affiliate relationships never influence what we write or recommend. We evaluate every service the same way, and if something isn't good, we say so.

For a full explanation of how we handle affiliate relationships, see our Affiliate Disclosure. For how we evaluate services specifically, see How We Review.
